 Greetham Rutland Rally 2019

Many of the ralliers arrived a day early at the site having come straight from the AGM at Fakenham. A good journey, with Mick ably guiding us round the roadworks on the A1. The weather was good and caravans and awnings were soon erected (apart from the slight disagreement with the site managers regarding the meeting tent). This was smoothed out but meant that both organisers and assistants had to move the position of their caravans. All was then ready for the start of the rally on Wednesday.

The rest of our group arrived with the weather still fine, while those of us already set up started to explore the surroundings. We gathered in the meeting tent at 7 pm for coffee, tea and chat and Phil gave us details of the rally (to include of course some of Mick and Erica's fiendish quizzes). The weather continued reasonably fine (hot at times) during the whole of the rally, interspersed with a few showers, and everyone was able to get out and about to Rutland Water, Stamford, Oakham, Melton Mowbray, Barnsdale Gardens and many other of the area's attractions.

On Thursday evening there was no meeting as there was a Classic Vehicle meet in the village. This was very interesting for many (even the women) and I particularly liked the 1950's Daimler - I always did have expensive tastes. This was an enjoyable evening but some of us cut it short as it became rather cold!

Saturday evening we enjoyed a quiz night and chat in the local community centre where we brought out own main meals and the organisers provided desserts - including Erica's delicious fruit pies and mince pie. The 1960's quiz was won by Kate and Malcolm and it was generally agreed that most of us could remember more about the 1960's than we can about last week!

Quiz results were announced on Sunday evening, when Kate and Malcolm were again the winners and the raffle was drawn. In excess of 40 was collected.

A meal had been arranged at Greetham Valley Golf Club on Monday evening and this was enjoyed by all. Malcolm thanked the rally organisers and assistants on behalf of us all.

It was a fine sunny morning for packing up and everyone agreed it had been a very enjoyable rally.
