 Pickering Rally 2019

The Vale of Pickering caravan site is near Allerston, North Yorkshire.  This is a really nice site, well kept with good clean facilities close at hand.  The staff are very helpful. All in all a really pretty site.

At 7.30p.m we all met in the rally tent for our first introduction to the site and surrounding area and some of the attractions awaiting us. Alan also told us of all the things he had laid on for us. He also reminded us of Mary's raffle. This time Margaret was playing the part of Mary and over the course of the rally the raffle raised 68.00

When we arrived at the site Derek and Angela Ward also David and Rosemary Aylott were on site enjoying a short break.

On Friday Tony Peacock came for a quick visit and on the Tuesday David and Chris Exley brought Norman and Joyce Taylor all for a catch up among old friends.

For our newer members, these are the people over the years who were at the heart of the club organising rallies and running the club. It was Norman and Joyce who introduced us to the Pickering site.

On Saturday evening we were allowed to use the site cafe for our beetle drive and fish and chips brought in by Margaret and Alan Shankster.

There was a tie for winner of the beetle drive between Ron and Malcolm. So after tossing the dice Ron got a bottle of Fairy liquid and Malcolm 3 lovely pan scrubs. Tom got the booby prize of 2 jumbo pegs. These were truly inspired prizes.

On Monday our leader Mr. Barnes had arranged a trip on the North Yorkshire Steam Railway. We went from Pickering to Whitby, a lovely journey on a beautiful day, everyone enjoyed it.

On Tuesday evening we had our meal together at the Fox and Rabbit, a really tasty meal and lots of it. Everyone came away having had a really good feed.

On Wednesday we all got our awnings down in the dry and did our last minute visits to nice places close by. In the evening another beetle drive at the local village hall. This time Alan confused us all by giving one sheet per table of four. When a full beetle was scored everyone had to move anywhere. It was good fun.

Thursday saw the first rain of the week but it was our last day so we will excuse that.

Alan Barnes and Alan and Margaret Shankster really did us proud, so a big thank you to them for all their hard work.

As the rally organiser I enjoyed the Rally, despite various setbacks. This Rally, enjoyed by all who attended, they told me; would not, and could not, have been the success it was without Alan and Margaret Shankster acting as my anchors.

This is my private thank you! In a very public domain.
