 Solway ViewRally 2019

We arrived at Solway View on a rather rainy day but the views as we drove through the site made up for the wet weather. Ron and Roz who were helping Steve on the rally braved the weather to greet us and discuss where we could park as they had to move their caravans because of the puddles. Having decided on a pitch with the help of Steve and Ron, the rain stopped and we set up the caravan in dry weather.

Solway View is located within Balmangan Farm which is a 330 acre beef and sheep farm. There were plenty of walks around the farm, nature trails and adjoining woodland but you had to watch out for a cow called Houdini on the walk to the Solway from the site as she liked to escape from her field onto the path.

The first night Steve made all 8 units of 13 people a three course dinner in a room which was available for our use. The table was beautifully set out and a lovely thought after the journey we had all made. Thank you Steve, it was a great meal. We used this room all week for our drinks and chats in the evenings except for our last night when Steve arranged a meal at the local Fish and chip shop in Kirkcudbright which everyone enjoyed.

On the Saturday there was a food festival in Castle Douglas which some of us visited and then came back in the afternoon to Kirkcudbright for the finishing of the Tour of Britain Cycle race.

The weather was not too bad except for the high winds one night which kept most of us awake but no mishaps.

Thank you Steve for organizing a great rally on a lovely site. Thanks also goes to Roz and Ron for helping in various ways as well as doing the quiz and Mary’s raffle which raised £41.

Best Wishes,

Rita and David Martin
