abbey farm caravan & camp site, somerset

Thursday 4th June to 9th June 2009

Organised by Anne and Ted Grummitt

Two years ago we ran our first rally on this site, it seemed to go well, so we decided to return and more or less follow the same program.
Our 13 vans included 2 which were with us last time, our very helpful new assistants Chris & Dave returned despite having their nearly new car severely dented last time, Mary & Brian also came again and they had 2 punctures on the day of departure in 2007.

Friday morning we did our walk into Langport and we were well supported, out via the old railway track, and home via the riverside footpath, the local cows were inquisitive but they moved out of the way when they noticed we had the ex chairman with us!

Our host, site owner Brian gave every van half a dozen local eggs, a gift very much appreciated, he also set up his large BBQ for us to use, we were amused the day he arrived to clean the site toilets in his vintage Rolls, this must be a first for the club.

Saturday evening we had our BBQ, the half oil drum takes a while to get started, however it enables 10 of us to cook at once, it does swallow rather a lot of charcoal, and it was still hot in the morning.

A favorite place to visit was 'Street', here there is a complete village of discount shops, most campers came back with cars laden with bargains, Anne bought 2 pairs of Ecco shoes at less than half price, her collection is second only to that of Imelda Marcos!

Our quiz proved to be a little tricky, Anne told me it was too difficult, surely not, every one knows Peter Marinello, and Arthur Milton and what they were famous for!, Chris & Dave knew some of the answers and won. They also provided a more sensible Quiz for BBQ night.
Unfortunately Clive & Sheila had to go home early as Sheila was unwell, their awning came down easier than it went up as this took 5 of us, after all it was a windy day. ( see photo). I have been in touch since returning home and Sheila was recovering.

A big thank you to all who came to our rally, many drove very long distances, some even came direct from a holiday in Italy!
