Aberlour Rally

 aberlour gardens caravan park, scotland

Thursday 10th September to 15th September 2009

Organised by Keith and Sylvia Wilkinson

We followed on from Keith & Sylvia’s rally at Gretna up country to the campsite at Aberlour.

The sun was shining as we arrived to the pleasantly situated, level and dry site within walled gardens. After the welcome cup of tea supplied by Joyce and Norman Taylor we got settled in. Thursday evening we all met in Keith’s party tent for coffee but with a very special extra i.e. whisky & pymms, just to get us in the Scottish mood.

Aberlour itself is a nice little place with its own waterfall, distillery and right on the banks of the River Spey. You could walk to Aberlour from the site although we took the car.

We visited Elgin, Glenfiddich’s distillery and Speyside Cooperage whilst we were there. All very interesting.

Keith decided to break with tradition and hold coffee evenings instead of coffee mornings and Keith and I thought this an excellent idea. This way you could just get away early in the mornings if so desired, or alternatively have a lay in, but still get the opportunity to meet with everyone in the evening.

Saturday evening we all had tasty fish and chips and then came the pièce de résistance – 2 lady pipers clad in kilts playing the bagpipes. It was truly fantastic and rousing. I didn’t know I liked the bagpipes but after that I am a convert.

Monday evening we went for a meal in a nearby restaurant and the food was top quality. We had chicken stuffed with haggis – a first for us.

We thoroughly enjoyed both rallies but the weather was kinder at Aberlour. Thank you to Keith, Sylvia, Joyce, Norman and not forgetting Lorna & Pat Veitch who also helped on the rally.
