Edinburgh Tattoo Rally

EDINBURGH TATTOO, LAUDER, SCOTLAND

Thursday 17th August to Tuesday 21st August

Organised by Keith and Sylvia Wilkinson

Having attended the Lauder rally in snowy April 2006, we were very happy to revisit this well run and comfortable site. When offered our ‘welcome cuppa’ by hosts – Sylvia, Lorna and Keith, we also beheld the awesome sight of Pat Veitch ‘kilt-wrapped’ in ‘quid auld’ Scottish fashion. We later assembled for the 7.30 pm meeting (The midges assembled soon after!) and amongst various notices, offered ‘congrats’ to the first of five birthday boys/girls to be celebrated during the rally.

Edinburgh was at the hub of sightseeing over the next few days. Car, bus or train delivered us to this atmospheric city at Festival time. The rain downpouring but spirits uplifting as we were entertained by the Fringe groups. We also, with some relief, unearthed elusive answers to the (infernal) Scottish Quiz!

Saturday’s Countdown Evening with American Supper proved highly entertaining (well – Anne & Clive, and Alan & I won!).

The evening spent at The Tattoo was the highlight of the rally. Keith sprouted one or three grey hairs when the coach was (very) late but all was well and the spectacle was hugely enjoyed by all. We were home just before the coach turned into a pumpkin with everyone agreeing that we would happily ‘awa haem’ on the morrow.

So, with a skirl o’ the pipes, many thanks to Keith, Sylvia and helpers Pat and Lorna (and not forgetting Mary of the raffle tickets) for a thoroughly enjoyable rally.
