The consideration, dignity and courtesy of our wonderful club came through at this years AGM rally. The untimely and sudden death of John Putnam on Saturday morning saw the compassion and resolve in everyone that enabled Julie to gain comfort and strength from all of us. Her fervent wishes were for us to 'carry on as normal' so in response to her particular request we raised a toast to John before beginning our evening meal. Richard Moss paid a fitting tribute to John's great sense of fun and humour which we shall all miss.
Underneath the clouds of sadness, we celebrated two birthdays. In time honoured fashion, we sang Happy Birthday to both Lorna Veitch and Thelma Edwards. As Thelma had reached a special birthday, she was also presented with a cake – complete with lighted candles (although we spared her blushes by not putting on the full 60 candles!!).
On Sunday the results of the quizzes were announced; Kath and Peter Beauchamp winning the main prize and the picture quiz was won by Rosemary and David Aylott. The rally raffle prize went to Lyn and David Warren.
On Monday evening, we rounded off the rally in the Long Bar with a splendid buffet meal arranged by the members and whilst kind words were spoken to both the outgoing and incoming Chairman, the final praise must go to the membership as a whole who showed the true meaning of friendship and fellowship.
