Braids Caravan park at Gretna was the venue for this rally ably organised as usual by Sylvia & Keith Wilkinson assisted by Lorna & Pat Veitch. 19 units eventually arrived although one couple had been put off by the weather forecast of rain. Whatever next !! The forecast had been correct & the site was certainly wet & muddy initially, so much so the rally field was unusable hence we were all located on the main site. Ground conditions had been churned up somewhat by a previous rally held prior to our arrival so Wellington boots were in order. Most GOC members however are hardy souls & enjoyment was still the order of the day.
The organisers initiated a novel idea to hold no coffee mornings, but coffee evenings instead. The idea worked very well as there was a very nice warm room to use and the evenings were getting dark. We were all able to leave as early as we liked in the mornings for the daily excursions. There was plenty to see in the area & not just the anvils (yes there are many) at nearby Gretna Green. A great deal of mirth was generated at a session of Countdown on Saturday evening. Keith & Pat who were “doing” the numbers and letters failed abysmally to look anything remotely like Rachel Riley but kept us under control. (If you don’t know who Rachel Riley is then look at Countdown, Channel 4 at 3.25 Mon to Fri and you will see what I mean).
The usual Monday evening meal was held in a nice hotel near to the site so most were able to walk there (& back!).
At the end of this very enjoyable rally some went on to Aberlour for some more of Scotland, others dispersing in all directions. Very many thanks to the organisers, well done.
