Kingsbury Water Park Rally

Thursday 3th July to Tuesday 8th July

Organised by Dave and Jackie Atkins

This is my first Rally report so it may not read very professional, but at least I now know what a Polliwog is (a question in the usual brain teasing quiz).

The 15 Carousels that attended this Rally organised by Jackie & David Atkins ably assisted by Margaret & David Bray had an almost private section of the Camping & Caravan Club Site, at least until the influx of the weekenders. Even then our Meet still enjoyed its own space.

Although the writer arrived during rain, the Rally was blessed with mainly good weather, it being hot and sunny for most of the time, except for the American Supper on Saturday evening where those seated with their backs to the Gazebo wall suffered damp collars or, worse still, damp pants! Nevertheless, the American Supper was a great success and contributed to self imposed crowd control and closer acquaintances being made. The supper was rounded off nicely with Strawberries, Raspberries and Cream supplied by Jackie’s visitors.

Kingsbury Water Park lived up to its justifiable reputation. A gate from the site led into the Water Park and thence to many lakes and miles of paths to wander over and explore. Amazing to think how many of us have driven on the motorway over the Park without knowing of its existence! A complete day can easily be spent inside the Park with refreshments available at the Visitor Centre and, at weekends, at the Granary Restaurant, which was reported to sell a delicious Cream Tea.

The Raffle (Lorna being Mary) raised £35.

Heavy rain all Saturday night and early Sunday morning hastened the departure of many weekenders, but those that stayed on, and those at our Meet, could enjoy the improving weather that continued on Monday with visits to Tamworth and its Castle, the various National Trust properties nearby, walks by the canal with, of course, a visit to the Dog and Doublet.

An excellent Rally in an equally superb location which can be considered a firm favourite for a further visit. By the way, a Polliwog is a tadpole
