Thursday 18th June to 23rd June 2009

Organised by Pat and Lorna Veitch

A very warm welcome awaited us from Lorna and Pat at the Rivendale site. We each had an individually sectioned pitch and although the ground was pretty hard - after all this used to be a quarry, - Pat was ready with his lump hammer for those having difficulty pegging out. It has to be said that the weather could have been a little kinder. We had some rain, wind and mist but that didn't deter us from going out and about in this lovely part of the Peak District. David Kenyon's knowledge of the area proved invaluable for those of us looking for such places as Eyam, Hathersage and Ramshaw Rocks. Well dressings also proved a popular sightseeing trip. On Friday many of us went to the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop where, under guidance from a member of the staff, we aimed to produce a pudding to take home. The best result came from Thelma and sorry to say, the worst pudding was made by Derick but never mind, we all had great fun. (Apparently, we must all learn to do more “popping” next time!) On Sunday we all went to the site café where a very nice roast dinner was produced which we enjoyed and I'm sure led to many of us having a relaxing afternoon.
So, many thanks have to go to the “great team” as Pat called them. Lorna, Christine and David and of course, the man himself who actually choreographed his different coloured shirts to coincide with the announcements of the day – ending with blue which was how we all felt after having such a great time.
