Bantam clutches

At R.C.R we are always looking at ways to improve the reliability of classic motor cycles whether they used on the road or in competition. We therefore have pleasure in introducing components to improve both me 3 plate and the later 4 plate Bantam clutches. The standard items were of course designed for the 125cc D1 and apart from adding an extra pair of plates and a needle roller bearing nothing significant has altered. Often any increase in power and torque has resulted in annoying clutch slip. The usual remedy is to fit heavy duty springs to the system. This will effect a cure but will impose much heavier loads upon the operating mechanism and as the pressure plate distorts will result in a heavy unpleasant feel at the clutch lever. We have overcome this problem with our clutch conversion components. The pressure plate is machined from much thicker material than the original whilst the outer cover is machined from alloy and fits deeper onto the drum to prevent the usual spreading problems. Two types are available, the normal 6 spring type or an 8 spring version. Both types use standard as well as heavy duty springs. During tests on competition engines the 8 spring version using standard springs performed better than the original item with heavy springs without the tiring effect of a heavy clutch action. Riders of road machines also benefit from a sweeter operating clutch. The price of the 6 spring version is £43 and the 8 spring version is £48. |
