This kind of setup is often found..the low voltage lighting on the boat is powered from
either the boat battery, or when connected to shore power/genset, via a 12V transformer.
Here, the relays that do the switching have been installed in a cupboard where stuff is also stored but live 240 volt terminals have been left uncovered to suprise anyone blundering around in there looking for something.
It can be seen that low-power relays have been 'paralleled' to cope with the load..in this instance the halogen lamps exhibit a high start-up surge when cold, but as relays are mechanical devices and do not switch at exactly the same time, one relay had switched the entire load and it's contacts welded together.
