Someone put a lot of work into this...
There were brass lamps on the wall of this boat, and for all the world
they must have been gas lamps because of the copper pipe that led from
the bottom of each lamp (pyro was not considered..).
It was only by looking at the above 13A socket I realised something was
not right, the plug was upside down with respect to the one in the adjacent
socket.
All was revealed when the plug was removed..as you can see, the earth
pin has been removed and fitted into the earth socket to open the live
and neutral shutters- thus allowing the plug to be inserted wrong. This
has proved necessary because the copper pipe- thought to be gas- in fact
contains a length of bell wire that powers the light, and it approaches
the socket from behind.
