This is a starter cable, carrying probably 100 amps. The nut and bolt will corrode over a few seasons, and become a hot spot. The plastic tube is ordinary PVC and will either melt, exposing the cable to a short circuit, or catch fire.
It's always best policy to use one continuous length of cable, but if your back's to the wall a butt splice insulated with self-adhesive heatshrink will get things moving again.
