Tim Ward is able to arrange the supply of leather control column boots. His messages of 15/6/2001 and 09/10/02 are reproduced below and a diagram and photo of the boots appear below that. He can now also arrange the supply of protective prop-tip covers and angled fuel filler pipes, see below.
Leather Control Column Boots
Gentlemen,
I have just designed and had made a Control Universal Boot cover made of leather. Made of 4 pieces of good quality leather, sewn together with inner seams. One end attached to the Front Tufnol Bearing CS04 by velcro, making the universal easily accessible. The other end attached to the control column with a leather lace. Elegant and long wearing available in many colors.
Took many trips to the leather man after trying various templates by trial and error. The leather man has kept the design templates and is offering to make more.
Anyway, if builders are interested in the boot then email me and I can arrange a good deal for the boot to be made in numbers.
I am in the USA up to 6 times a month so freight would be very little as well as the UK. I do not intend to make a profit out of them, only a service.
I have not discussed a price with Mr. Leather man, however will do if there is interest. They look good, elegant stylish and a good finish.
Cheers,
Tim

Also, on 09/10/02 :-
There has been a small redesign of the boot due to an incident here in New Zealand where foreign matter did find its way under the control column universal.
Essentially the boot is the same as has previously been ordered except it now attaches to the floor of the cockpit around the universal to completely enclose it. The bottom of the boot is cut to shape around the universal and velcro is used to attach it to the floor.
An alternative way is to build a 30 mm 'fence' out of 3 x BID cloth around the universal from the CS04 tufnol plate and velcro the boot to this 'fence'.
Important note : New installation instructions have been prepared by Tim and are available here (Word 97 document, 26KB). [If this does not open as a document in your browser, then right click on the link and store the file (the 'target') on your PC to open later.]
The diagram below might not, therefore, be entirely represenative of the current design.
