Joanna -Sings Like The Stars’

by Marilyn Ayres Dorset & Hampshire Community Magazine    March 2002

Listening to the dulcet tones of Kate Winslet as her Christmas hit, What If emanated from the sound system. The next minute it appeared that Sophie Ellis Bextor was giving a rendition of Murder on the Dance Floor.  In fact Joanna Gray is probably more versatile than both Kate and Sophie as she can perform the works of a number of other singers including Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand & Madonna.

Although a modest woman she is confident in her abilities. You could say that the arts are in the genes, as her aunt was a singer/actress and her sister is a professional artist.

“ As a child I did ballet and always wanted to put a show together” she said. Today Joanna works regularly with Heartbeat.“ Even if I couldn’t sing professionally, I’d still want to perform. I enjoy entertaining people,” In addition to arranging live music & entertainment, Joanna produces tributes to such artists as Shania Twain, Celine Dion and The Carpenters.

Joanna Gray performing her 'Carpenters Remembered' tribute uncannily recalls the poignancy of Karen's voice and sheer strength of her songs. But in remarkable contrast her Celine Dion tribute, My Heart Will Go On provided a storming finish to the show.
