The site has been prepared to allow local LDWA members and others to browse past social and chalenge
walks and provide a service to host walk details. Below are some hints and notes on using the pages.
- Downloading GPX
-
You can display the route on Google Earth as a full screen display. Click on the GPX link and
download the zipped file to your desktop. Right click on the compressed file and
select 'Extract all..'
.
All thats left to do is to drag the file into a Google Earth display.

An occasional bug manifests as Google and description windows refusing to close. Reloading
the page cures the problem.
- Walk pages contain an O.S. map and Google Earth image, these together with the GPX file
require a noticeable download and processing time. While it is possible to speed up, it requires
an increased maintenance overhead and looses flexibility. Please be patient.
When browsing the map, processing and download can be reduced by closing the Google window. Do it early
to avoid the above bug.
-
Walks with the eye icon contain information on speed, time, distance and height. This can be accessed by
pressing the 'P' key, a profile and data window will be displayed. You may then access points on the route by
holding down Ctrl and clicking on the route.
When the walk page first opens you will be offered
an option for a colour displayed track, for greater clarity choose cancel.
-
Display is far better when you use the full screen - toggle F11.
- General
-
You will notice a difference between billed mileage and that shown on the map page. This is caused
by 'corner rounding' when the route file is compacted.
