AMY LANE/QUINN

Born 1859 - Died ?

1859 Born In Landport, Hampshire. Eldest daughter of John Madagascar Quinn and Sarah Quinn (nee Lane). She was born before her parents married in 1862 so it is possible that John Madagascar Quinn might not be her natural father.
1861 Census Age 2. Recorded as living with her mother in Moore's Square (No. of Schedule - 153.54?), Portsea, Hampshire. Mother's occupation is given as 'Laundry'. Both are recorded with a surname of 'Lane'. Place of birth recorded as Portsea.
1871 Census Age 12. Recorded as living at 12 Taylors Court in Portsea, Hampshire. Surname given as 'Quinn'. Place of birth recorded as 'Southsea'.
4th January 1879 May have given birth to Lydia Quinn at 52 Northam Street, Southampton. Although on the 1881 and 1891 censuses Lydia is noted as being the daughter of John Madagascar Quinn and Sarah Quinn (nee Lane), it is likely that she is their grandaughter. On Lydia's birth certificate, the column for the father's name contains 'Nathanial Quinn'. The column for the mother's name contains 'Amy Quinn formerly a Tailoress'. The informant's name is given as 'Sarah Quinn, present at the birth, 52 Northam Street, Southampton'. This points to the grandparents 'adopting' Lydia and bringing her up as their own daughter.
1881 Census Age 21. Was living at 7 Albert Road, St Mary Extra, Southampton, Hampshire with her parents, siblings and daughter Melia/Melia Haysom (age 5 months). Occupation given as 'Tailoress'. Place of birth recorded as 'Landport'.
17th April 1881 Married Albert James Haysom (son of Matthew Gould Haysom and Sarah Bennett). The family later changed its surname to James, probably after 1883.[*]
1891 Census Age 32. Recorded at 9 Trinity Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight with Albert James (age 34 - occupation 'Tailor - Outfitter'), Lillie James (age 9 - scholar), Alfred James (age 7 - scholar), Ivey James (age 3 months) and Lucy Quinn (age 21 - her sister). No occupation given.
