Experience of the type of request and the effort involved to find satisfactory answers has made it necessary make a charge for this work. When an enquiry is received we will, as nearly as possible, estimate what the likely cost will be and ask for payment before proceeding. If this estimate is likely to be exceeded then we will give an explanation and seek agreement to go ahead.
The Society is a small registered charity and any work done by members of the Society will be on a voluntary basis with all proceeds going directly to the Society's funds. We think a sum of £10 per hour of researcher's time is reasonable.
Some of our research is carried out at Dorchester which involves travel, which is usually by car and we would charge 12p per mile. (Dorchester 52 miles.). If however travel has to be by Public Transport this will have to be charged at cost. Where one journey covers more than one investigation the travel costs and time taken will be apportioned.
Where investigations involve obtaining and posting Certificates and/or Photo copies we will advise the probable cost and ask for payment before proceeding. Photographs from our archives can be scanned and sent by email at a cost of £2 each.
Charts for the following families are held in computerised form (Family Tree Maker .FTW files) and many others are held in manuscript.

Production of Family Trees on computer will be quoted for on an individual basis, depending on the work involved, but will generally be based on the number of names involved as we think that this method is probably the best reflection of the research involved.
Method of payment: As we are a small local Society we regret that the only form of payment which we can accept is a Sterling cheque or Banker's Draft in Sterling made out to LMLH and P Society.
