Waiting for a Train

All the action takes place on the platform of a rural railway station. It’s a play about life, destinations, purpose, love, and friendship.

Ester drifts between fantasy and reality whilst her best friend tries her best to look after her and battle against the vagaries of the British railway service in order to get Ester to keep an appointment.

Enter two strangers who appear to be going to the same place. But which one has the appointment? Will they ever get there, and why does the station announcer answer back?

Characters

Vicky is a smart, intelligent and caring woman aged 18 – 30
Ester is vulnerable yet playful and fun the same age as Vicky
Pam is overbearing and unfriendly aged 35 – 45
Lucy is enigmatic and mysterious aged 16 – 18
The voice of the Station Announcer (any age or gender)
