Individual Note: The following from "Notorious Men of Anglesey" by Richard Parry, first written 1872.
James Treweek Esq. a native of Platy, Gwennap, Cornwall, born July 28th 1779, came over to Amlwch to live at Mona Lodge. In the year 1811, this Gentleman made himself popular throughout the land as the manager of the Mona mines, owned by the Marquis of Anglesey for 47 years. By his inspiration and ingenuity, the lead mine flourished. He was also the owner of a number of ships. May be the biggest owner in North Wales at that time.
He had 59 ships of his own. He was a great Christian Gentleman. He took great interest in the Wesleyan Church and school. He died in the year 1852, was buried in Amlwch, where a great number of inhabitants came to his funeral. He left five sons and four daughters, two only of his sons still live.
