The National 2½" Gauge Association
Keeping the spirit of the past alive and looking to the future.

The Steam Chest Journal
From the very beginning, the Association sent a duplicated newsletter to all its members.
In 1982, its form changed to that of an A5 sized folded booklet.
In 1984 it became The Steam Chest.
It remained in this form until 2002, when with only a few remaining old style pre-printed
covers left in stock, Steam Chest gained a cover featuring colour photographs on
both its front and rear - something members had been asking for some time.
Steam Chest is now published three times a year - January, May and September. The
content varies, but generally has letters, technical tips, construction ideas, info on prototype
designs, etc. In recent times, it has included a serialised detailed design for a narrow
gauge locomotive and tender - Toby.
An index of all the articles, letters, etc., published in the first 100 issues was created
and published - and appreciated by many members.
Because only a few extra copies of the Journal were produced, back issues is a problem.
Occasionally, the Association acquires a number from members, but the Booklets and
Back Numbers Service can either photocopy or reprint any issue on demand.
The Editor has been gradually scanning all the old issues with a view to putting
the files on a CDROM (which members could purchase for a small amount).
The journals and newsletters are currently printed by Digital Print FX Limited
