COSTS

Demand for 2½" gauge and Gauge '3' iron wheel castings is insufficient to justify the very high first costs and large minimum quantity orders needed for machine moulded iron castings. The only alternative is hand moulding, but extremely few foundries, who still practice the older traditions of manual moulding, will take on small quantity production of wheel castings. Inevitably, the labour content of this work is high with resultant higher prices per wheel than the machine moulding technique. Regretfully, prices have had to be raised in line with increases in foundry and postal charges.

AVAILABILITY

Although I endeavour to keep a sufficient number of all wheels without overstocking, occasionally there is an unexpected run on a particular wheel such that this item becomes out of stock. Because it is an economic necessity to order not less than 6 different wheels at any time there may be some weeks delay, until other wheel types have reduced sufficiently, before that item is restocked. I hope that customers will understand this situation, should it occur.

THE WHEEL RANGE

The list overleaf shows the current range of 58 different wheels with their main dimensions and features. To ensure that the nearest correct wheel is identified do mention the locomotive, carriage or wagon type when ordering The majority of 'LBSC' and other designs are also catered for.

NEW ADDITIONS

40PUG 36" dia. Driving wheel for L & YR 0-4-0 saddle tank pug.

42MA 37" dia. Mansell type wooden centres wheel used on pre-1870 carriages.
