The meeting began with a representation from Helen Shearer of the Welham Green As One group regarding an event planned for Saturday 13 September 2008 to celebrate the Balloon Landing by Vincenzo in Welham Green.

Members of the Committee had an on-site meeting to discuss the events which would take place around the football field - excluding the pitch area which would be roped off - but that would include use of the tennis courts for stalls, the recreation ground for a bouncy castle, together with the necessary permits, licences and insurance that would be needed for the event to take place.

It was agreed that the celebrations could take place subject to the necessary permits, licences and insurance being in place.

1.         APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

Apologies for absence were received from Councillor Mrs T Travell.

2.         MINUTES OF LAST MEETING

Minutes of a meeting of the Amenities and Building Development Committee held on Wednesday 9 July 2008 were adopted by the Council at their meeting on 30 July 2008.

3.         MATTERS ARISING

a) Purchase of Land at Little Heath

Settlement of the Council’s final invoice had now been received together with a letter promising to liaise with the Parish Council when works are due to commence.

b)   St Mary’s School Drainage Easement

Councillors C Everard and Mrs J Boulton agreed to arrange a date when the school re-starts in September, to prepare a drawing of the Sunshine Nursery School building showing its connections to utilities owned by the Parish Council.

c)  Youth Shelter

It was noted that there was no lighting in the youth shelter.  Kerry Clare at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council was investigating the matter.

4.         ANY OTHER BUSINESS

i)  North Mymms Bowls Club

Councillor Everard said that a meeting had been held with committee members of the North Mymms Bowls Club on Monday 11 August 2008 and the condition of the Bowling Green was again mentioned.

It was agreed that when the Parish Council’s professional advisor prepared his report, a copy would be given to the Bowls Club and they could obtain professional advice from their own advisor, at their own expense, if they so wished.

However, Councillors Mrs Boulton and C Everard had explained that the Parish Council needed to be prudent with tax payers’ money but that it was the aim of the Council to have the best possible Bowling Green for the limited funds available.

The members of the Amenities Committee were unanimous in their praise for the Head Groundsman and his team for their work on the bowling green, coupled with the many demands upon their time in other areas within the Parish.

ii)  Metal Storage Box for Football Nets

Two quotations had been received for 10’ x 8’ metal storage boxes to be placed on the playing field behind the Burns Pavilion.  It was agreed to proceed with the purchase of the cheaper quote for approximately £990 but not until confirmation is received of a contribution from the Community Chest promised by the Welham Green Ward Councillors.

iii)  Tractor Tyres

It was noted that two new tyres were required for the T registered tractor at a cost of £670 each, excluding VAT.  Councillor Storey said he had checked the finance situation and the cost would be met from the tractor fund.

Meeting closed at 9.10 pm
