Irish Moiled Cattle
About the Breed
The Irish Moiled is the original Irish smallholder cow. “Moiled” comes from the Gaelic word
'Mael' or 'Maoile', meaning polled or hornless.
They are a hardy, dual-purpose breed, being used originally for both meat and milk and having
the ability to thrive on poor grazing. They are one of Britain’s rarest breeds, at one time
going down to 13 animals. There are currently around 300 breeding females.
It is believed that the cattle are descended from polled cattle that have been found in
Ireland since prehistoric times.
They can be pale, like Clementine and Topsy, or dark, like Evita, but should always be white
along the top of the back and under the belly.
We currently have 1 Irish Moiled Cow, 2 Heifers and a Calf
