Career Summary
I am currently working as a geophysical consultant for
Hampshire Geoscience Ltd., providing geophysical interpretation services to
several major clients. Additionally, I am also involved through partnership
with Lunn Upstream Consultants Ltd in providing teaching courses in the seismic
interpretation of deep marine clastic systems.
Until 2002 I was employed as a Senior Staff
Geophysicist at Enterprise Oil in the London Technical Center, following
periods in the Basin Analysis Group and the West of Shetland Exploration Group.
Prior to working for Enterprise Oil I worked as a consultant for two years, and
before that for Britoil/BP for 12 years as both an interpretation geophysicist
in mainstream exploration, and as a sequence stratigrapher in R&D. I have
extensive experience in the field of seismic interpretation and sequence
stratigraphy, covering many of the worlds major producing basins. I consider
myself a practicing sequence stratigrapher having worked both in BP’s Sequence Stratigraphy Group and Submarine Fans Group
and operationally on passive margin sequences West of Shetland, Northwest
Africa, GOM, West Africa, South Atlantic and the North Slope. My work to date
has covered all aspects of exploration activity from regional evaluation to
prospect generation, with emphasis on the integration of geological and
geophysical data. I have worked individual 3D surveys ranging from 20 sq. km to
2000 sq. km. I am an expert user of Landmark interpretation systems (3D, 2D,
Earthcube, StratWorks, ZMap), as well as both Kingdom Suite and Geographix
platforms, with particular emphasis on deep-water technologies such as 3D
visulisation and seismic facies analysis. I have also been involved in teaching
for the Geoscience Training Alliance. I graduated from Reading University in
1982 with an Upper Second Class degree in Geological Geophysics.
Work Experience
Sept 2002 - Hampshire
Geoscience Ltd
Since 2002 I have been working as a geophysicist for my own consultancy company, Hampshire Geoscience Ltd. I currently have several key-clients to which I provide broad geophysical consultancy services. Recent projects include a detailed regional and playfairway review of the Falkland Plateau and South Falkland basins, the Nile Delta (Egypt), Offshore Indus Basin (Pakistan), and Offshore Morocco. Work undertaken has included regional evaluation, farm-ins, playfairway analysis (including common risk segment mapping) and prospect evaluation. In addition I have been involved in raising institutional funds through an IPO for a new exploration company, Borders and Southern Petroleum plc, which successfully floated on the AIM in May 2005. I have also been one of the co-teachers of a seismic interpretation course, which I developed with my partner, Lunn Upstream Consultants.
May 1997 – Sept 2002 Enterprise Oil
I was employed as a Senior Staff Geophysicist in the
Middle East/North Africa Group, interpreting a large area 3D seismic data in
the Enterprise operated Cap Draa permit, offshore Morocco. Prior to this I
worked in the London Technical Center, as a consultant geophysicist carrying
out service work on offshore Morocco (establishing regional sequence
stratigraphic framework) and the North Sea (regional prospect analysis using
multiple 3D surveys), as well as working farmouts and corporate acquisitions.
At Enterprise I have also worked in the Basin Analysis Group evaluating ongoing
and future opportunities, and the West of Shetland Team, covering regional
evaluation and prospect generation.
July 1996
- April 1997 Amoco
(UK) Exploration
Employed as a senior geophysicist working regional
review and operated ventures, West of Shetland. Interpretation of both 2D and
3D seismic on Landmark systems. Responsible for the planning and implementation
of work programs over operated acreage.
June 1994 - June 1996 Independent
Consultant
During a two-year period provided sequence
stratigraphic interpretation services to several major UK Operators (British
Gas and Unocal) and smaller independents (Santos and Triton). Areas covered
included the Rockall Trough, West of Shetland, North Sea, East Irish Sea,
Italian Apennines and the Adriatic.
February 1992 - April 1994 BP Exploration, Yemen
Lead Explorer for two operated licenses in the Shabwa
Basin, onshore Yemen. Responsible for work program planning and execution.
Day-to-day work covered all aspects of exploration activities from regional
review through to prospect generation and evaluation, and seismic acquisition
and processing. User of numerous computer applications covering structural
restoration, seismic modeling, basin and geochemical modeling, potential fields
analysis and computer mapping. Supervisor of junior staff.
October 1990 - February 1992 BP Exploration, Houston
Seismic stratigrapher working on the marine clastic
system, Gulf of Mexico. Involved in developing internal teaching programs in
sequence stratigraphy and providing on-site consultancy in general exploration
and research projects.
January 1990 - October 1990 BP Exploration, London
Sequence stratigrapher working on marine clastic
systems. Charged with developing and implementing interpretive techniques for
the effective exploration of deep marine clastic margins. Worked extensively in
West Africa, North Sea, North Slope and GOM. Developed in-house teaching
programs.
January 1989 - December 1989 BP Exploration, London
Part of a small R&D task force (Basin Studies
Group) working on submarine fan systems in many areas of the world.
May 1988 - December 1988 BP Exploration, London
Seconded to the Seismic Processing Group, working on
AVO in classic depositional systems and seismic data display techniques for
sequence stratigraphic interpretation.
Oct 1985 - April 1988 BP
Exploration, Paris
General exploration work covering both non-operated
and non-operated licenses, regional reviews and prospect generation work.
Interpretation experience in thrust and fold belts of the Aquitaine Basin.
August 1985 - Oct 1985 BP
Exploration, London
After leaving Britoil in July 1985 joined BP as an
exploration geophysicist working on frontier basins in the Caribbean area.
Sept 1982 - July 1985 Britoil,
Glasgow
Inducted onto a two-year training program gaining
experience in many areas of exploration.
