Dear Parent,
Recent legislation and our own Federation guidelines suggest each Festival has a clear Child Protection Policy. This is the current policy statement of Chichester Festival for Music, Dance and Speech. Please take time to read this as participation in the Festival assumes an understanding of the policy.
The Chichester Festival for Music, Dance and Speech acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard all competitors from harm of any kind, particularly the young and the vulnerable, in accordance with the Protection of Children Act 1999. The ultimate responsibility for individual children, however, remains with the parent or designated adult accompanying the child to the event.
In order to safeguard the young people in our care we will ensure:
All our voluntary organisers and stewards are chosen by personal recommendation and are well known to us. Where their jobs at the Festival involve working alone with children they are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau. A file will be kept of Festival personnel on duty at each venue.
A named Child Protection Officer is appointed with overall responsibility for the Festival, and a Child Protection Officer is on duty at each event.
All volunteers wear named identification which will wherever possible state their specific roles. Anyone wearing a badge may be approached in the event of a problem and will be able to direct a child or parent to someone who will be able to help. All problems will be taken seriously and will be documented and dated.
No video or still photography is allowed during performances. Photography between classes is allowed only at the discretion of the organisers. Official photography will be allowed and it will be the responsibility of the parent or accompanying adult to object in advance of the festival if this is not acceptable. Where there is an objection it will not be allowed.
All reasonable effort is made to make the environment as safe as possible in partnership with parents and responsible adults. In making this effort, the Policy draws the attention of parents, guardians and carers to the fact that, where they are not personally attending with their children, they should be satisfied that their children will be accompanied at the festival and adequately supervised by responsible adults acting on their behalf.
The Festival Child Protection Policy is reviewed annually.
