Other active signalling preservation groups:

St Albans South Signal Box Preservation Group
is another group who have been set up to take over a redundant signal box.

Swindon Panel Box
This group is preserving Swindon Panel, one of the original Western Region “turn push” type panels, the staple panel design of the Western Region since the 1960s, before all the remaining examples close forever in the next few years. Swindon Panel is due to close on 23 May 2015 and the panel relocated to Didcot Railway Centre.

Epping-Ongar Railway Signalling
shows details of the work they have done to preserve and enhance the signalling on their railway east of London.

Bluebell Railway Signalling
have information on their signalling, including plans of some of the boxes, and a good write-up on bell signals and block working.

Brading Signal Box (Isle of Wight)
This group are restoring their LSWR signal box at its original site at Brading Station. Open to the public, along with the station building, on specific dates each year.

The Exeter West Group
They have preserved the complete signal box that used to be at Exeter and have re-built it at the Railway Heritage Centre in Crewe.

Great Western Society
at Didcot, a page covering their Signal & Telegraph project at Didcot Railway Centre.

The Mid-Hants Railway
their signalling group have posted information on their LSWR type signalboxes, similar to Romsey.

Severn Valley Railway S&T Dept.
Their site describes signalling on the Severn Valley Railway, the activities of the volunteer S&T Department and explains some of the jargon.

Swanage Railway
Superbly restored ex-LSWR type signal boxes on this heritage railway, although sadly very little detail on their website!

Bideford Railway
Bideford Railway Heritage Centre manages the Bideford station site and Instow signal box both of which are on the former railway line from Barnstaple to Bideford in North Devon.

The Signal Box
A site which provides an introduction to British Railway Signalling Practice and has a host of other information - this one's well worth a visit!

The Institution of Railway Signal Engineers
Has some useful information which is available for those interested in signalling, not just the professionals!

The Signalling Records Society
Is the society for those interested in railway signalling, in all forms from traditional mechanical installations to modern power signalling.

The British Power Signalling Register
lists all forms of power signalling in the UK, with links to informative descriptions and pictures.

West Country Railway Archives
West Country Railway Archives has a lot of information about the former Southern Railway lines in the West Country, including some information on signalling equipment.

Romsey & District Railway Modellers Society
The local model railway club, organisers of an annual model railway exhibiton that we link up with.

Friends of King Alfred buses, FoKAb
A local bus preservation group who are based in Winchester.

Romsey and District Society
The aim of the Society is to promote high standards of planning and architecture in the  area, and to secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historical or public interest in the area.
