ACTION LETTER - GP's
At the public meeting on the Children Bill (LSE 6th April
'04), it was clear that many doctors are unaware of the scale of the
information-sharing proposals in the Children Bill.
We are asking all parents to write to their GPs, and have composed a letter
below which you can copy out, or use as a framework for your own letter. Please
can you do this as quickly as possible.
Dear Dr.....
I understand that the Children Bill currently before Parliament will repeal the
Common Law that has protected the confidentiality of my family's medical
records.
Clause 8 of the Bill will give the government the power to compel you to share
information about me and my children, and could empower them to demand that
medical records are placed on a central database. Refusal to co-operate would be
an offence.
I wonder if you are aware of these proposals and would appreciate your comments.
Yours sincerely
...........
