Public Meeting at the London School of Economics:
2-5pm Tuesday April 6th 2004
Tracking children: a road to danger in the Children Bill?
The new Children's Bill may place children at risk. The information on children
in real danger will be hidden in a mass of data on children not at risk of harm.
The Bill may foster a culture of record, record, record - and drown
professionals in information overload.
The Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics hosted a
public meeting on the proposed tracking system in the Children Bill currently
going through Parliament. This proposal is highly controversial so it important
that there is opportunity for public discussion of its potential benefits and
dangers.
Speakers included the Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for Children
(subsequently withdrew) and
representatives of professional groups and families.
Chair: Dr Eileen Munro, Department of Social Policy
Date: 2-5pm Tuesday April 6th 2004
Venue: London School of Economics, Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House, The Aldwych,
London WC2
