2nd H Goring 3
Team: Tim Bryder, Andy
Broughton, Chris Dibble, Richard Fish, John Lehan, Nick Moss,
Steve Merritt, Richard Oliffe, Dick Southward (captain), Sam Venn,
Mike Weston.
Not the strongest team on paper,
but after being put in, Dick Southward (opening as Jeff Venn kindly
umpired) and Mike Weston put on 92 for the first wicket. Mike
scored 35, Dick got 75, some of them in front of the wicket, and
then John Lehan got 13. An undefeated partnership between Tim
Bryder, 15, and Steve Merritt, 28, boosted the run rate, so that
Billinghurst ended on 205-3.
Good tea.
Mike Weston , 2-33, and colts Andy Broughton, 2-41, Nick Moss,
2-35 and Sam Venn, 0-45 at the end, all bowled well, but Goring
scored 206-6.
The turning point came when their opener, and best batsman, who
was undefeated at the end, did not walk after snicking a catch.
He announced that his bat was nowhere near the ball. It's disappointing,
as the players from Goring-nowhere-near-the-Sea were a friendly
bunch. Goring also had a very good umpire and scorer.
A good performance again from the team, particularly the colts.
We get 13 points.
Man of the match: Mike Weston; magic moment: Nick Moss with two
wickets in two balls.
