Saturday 24th June

The day that RAM raided the 2nd XI.

In the picture are father and son Patterson; Tim Bryder; and Chris Dibble checking his bowling figures. Just leaving the pavilion is Johnny 'one stump' Lehan, whilst Richard Ridout goes one better.

1st L Away Littlehampton 3
They are really Littlehampton and Clapham and Patching thirds, and we've never played them before because our fixture card isn't wide enough.
Team: Ally Awcock, Tom Blackwell, Jim Burroughs (captain), Michael Burroughs, Peter Burroughs, Adrian Dudman, Lewis Fish, Guy Nelson, David Sainsbury, Chris Shambrook, Nick Turner.
Victory, and maximum points means the 1st XI still top the League.

Billingshurst 254-7: Michael Burroughs 64, Jim Burroughs 72, Nick Turner 24, Chris Shambrook 50no.
Littlehampton etc 185-7: Tom Blackwell 2-19, Peter Burroughs 2-47, Adrian Dudman 1-40, Chris Shambrook 2-5.

2nd Home Ram
Team: Tim Bryder, Gary Deponio, Chris Dibble, John Lehan, Roger Patterson, Tom Patterson, Richard Ridout, Dick Southward (captain), Sam Venn.
The 2nd team gained five points as they restricted RAM to 428-5 off their 45 overs. Two wickets for Roger Patterson and one each for Sam Venn, Tim Bryder and Chris Dibble, with all bowlers conceding less than a hundred runs.
After batting we finished up four hundred runs behind.

Are we downhearted?

The Crawley Observer of 5th July quotes Wisden's managing editor "No records are kept for non-first class cricket, but I have never heard of this happening before. It is a one-off, and although I cannot say it is a record, we shall be publishing it in Wisden as an unusual occurrence"
