St Mary’s Church is situated in the north-east of St Albans at the junction of Sherwood Avenue and Marshalswick Lane. It was built in the mid 1950s and became a parish church in 1972 when it was consecrated by Bishop Robert Runcie.
Our church is here to serve the community of Marshalswick. We are always pleased to explore the possibility of baptism, confirmation and marriage. We also offer a service of blessing to those married in a Registry Office, especially for those who may have been married before. We are also here to help at difficult times, to offer prayers for those who are ill and to help with the planning and leading of funerals in church or at the Crematorium or Cemetery.
St Mary’s is open every day for those who want to spend time with God or in quiet thought. The Community Prayer Request board in the entrance lobby is a place to ask for particular people or situations to be remembered in the prayers of the church. A new prayer focus, the Pebble Pool, has been introduced into church for the community to use. Alternatively, prayer requests may be e-mailed. As a congregation, we pray for the life of our community each day.
We have a variety of services during the week. Our main service is on Sunday morning at 9.30 a.m. and is a service of Holy Communion, except the second Sunday of each month which is a service geared towards families. We produce service sheets for each service to help make them accessible. We have an active Children’s Church, which meets during the Sunday morning service in term time.
Our hall and modern kitchen hosts many community activities for all ages and is available at affordable rates for private hire.
