Choir and Music at St Mary’s

O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

(Psalm 96:1)

Music forms an integral part of the worship at St Mary’s.

The 9.30 morning communion services are sung congregationally, to a setting that reflects the mood of the liturgical season. There is normally an evening service with chants from Taizé each month.

We use a wide variety of hymns, with words and music from mediaeval times to the twenty-first century, and reflecting all traditions.

The choir has recently restarted and normally sings on the first Sunday of each month, at Easter and at a Christmas carol service. Rehearsals are usually on the Saturday afternoon before the first Sunday, and new members are very welcome.

Sadly space in the Church is so much at a premium that we cannot accommodate the three-manual neoclassical tracker action pipe organ that any musical director would like to have - but we have an electronic two-manual Eminent which provides good service as well as an uplifting sound enjoyed by our congregation.
