The Vision becomes Reality ........ The goal of a "single set of words" for refinery equipment standards is now (March 2002) realised with an example: the publication of the Fifth Edition of API 661. This is a word-for-word adoption by ANSI and API of the ISO Standard 13706 that was developed jointly by the API SCHTE (Subcommittee on Heat Exchange Equipment) and European and other world organisations, working together in the forum of ISO/TC67/SC6/WG8. ISO 13706 had been parallel voted in CEN under the Vienna Agreement and had become a European Standard in 2000. European national bodies such as BSI then adopted EN ISO 13706 as their national standard. |
