“I have long thought it an error among all sorts that use not monastic lives, that they have no retreats for the afflicted, the tempted, the devout, where they might undisturbedly wait upon God, pass through their religious exercises and, being thereby strengthened, may with more power over their own spirits enter into the business of the world again.” (William Penn)
QRG is a listed informal group of Britain Yearly Meeting offering resources for spiritual nurture in the Quaker tradition and providing Quaker representation on the Retreat Association, a federation of retreat groups from various denominations.
A retreat is an opportunity to take time out from the rush of ordinary life; alone, with others or with the help of a leader to risk going deeper into stillness; to come into the mystery of God and prepare to return to everyday life with fresh resources.
One-to-one ministry takes many forms, according to particular needs and wants. It offers individual companionship and support on the spiritual journey.
Some members of QRG are moved to offer retreats and quiet days in Quaker Retreat Houses and elsewhere. These are usually listed in the QRG Newsletter and advertised by the houses. Other members prefer simply to participate and be aware of the retreats being offered and to uphold the retreat movement.
QRG can help meetings seeking someone to facilitate a retreat or quiet day. We can be a reference point for people wanting a spiritual director.
