TSE
v Dormansland
Sun 20 September
Result: Won
A scheduled 12.30 start
with both teams waiting on players. Ian won the toss and
elected to bat.
Steve
C opened with Brian. Early wicket loss with Brian out for 0, bowled
off a rebound from the next popping crease.
Mark joined Steve and the runs flowed until Mark was run out for
45 with the score at 123.
With Steve in full flow Neil and Lego became victims of the pitch
too. Arun joined Steve who was nearing his ton. He was 124 not out,
when Arun departed leaving Tom to face 2 balls which he despatched
for 8 runs with the total at 231 for 5, including 40
Extras.
The
opening attack of Amit and Tom bowled 5 overs a piece for 1 for
23 and 1 for 26.
Domansland batted sensibly but wickets tumbled with Mark taking
4 for 35, Kirrit 2 for 15 and Ian 2 for 14. Lego failed to repeat
his 5 wicket haul. There was good all round fielding with Brian
and Lego taking 2 catches each. Gerry and Arun 1 each. Dormnansland
were all out for 166 in 34 overs, so we WON by 65 Runs. Good Result!
TSE
v Ottershaw & Hamm
Sun 13 September
Result: Draw
Temple Sheen won the toss and elected to bat.
Steve Coggins and Marti opened the batting, Marti was out first
for 4, followed shortly by Ian and Nick.
A stand of 104 runs was put on by Lego and Steve. Steve was out
for 60. Lego continued with his good form and amassed 102 not out.
Brian also carried his bat for 5.
The total was 197-6 when Ian declared.
Lovely tea as usual, well done to all involved.
We had been informed that Ottershaw's opening bat (Keane) was chasing
his 1,000 for the season, Brian had him caught and bowled for 0.
They ended on 128-5.

v Oakley
Sun 09 August
Result: Draw
Sun
shining, the ground looked a picture, the captains decided on a
timed match Oakley batting first on a strip that looked full of
runs, one long boundary and 3 small ones.
Ian and Ben B. opened the bowling and it was soon obvious that there
was nothing in the pitch for any bowler. Two more Coggin's, Ben
and Steve along with Dave Twoose and John Hathway also bowled. Wickets
1 each to Ian, Steve and Dave and for the second time that day I
had to pinch myself, the first time was the News of the Worlds headline
was Mark Lester was the the father of one of Michael Jackson's kids,
however the small print revealed that it was the star of Oliver
and not our Mark, However in headline type print:
LEGO TAKES 5 WICKETS
This is no joke. I umpired and saw it at close quarters. His figures
7 over's 5 for 47. He bowled straight, had a quick delivery that
reached 20 mph and a slow one that reached 19 mph. He dropped a very
hard return chance off his own bowling, and a couple of others off
other bowlers, bowled 3 long hops which were dispatched to exactly
where his nan was sitting. She did confirm that he had put her chair
under the tree for her, but she did forgive him.
Ben Barker suffered a terrible thumb injury taking a catch off another
sloooooow full toss bowled by Lego, but Lego has always been an
interesting bowler and if, as this match showed, he bowled straight
he takes wickets. Brian Redfords reaction to this was to fly to
Russia the next day!
Oakley declared at 238-8 and we all went off for a superb tea, no
complaints were heard lovely grub.
Steve Coggins opened the batting with Dean Guy, who is one of the
new players we have been fortunate to have joined us. I had never
seen him play before, great to watch, he joined Steve in plastering
the home teams bowlers. He told me he was a baseball player. 112
was the opening partnership, Dean scoring 57 before being first
out and Steve going on to make 64.
Marty came in and made a quick 20 by which time we needed nearly
7 an over off the last 15. 30 extras helped and that man Ledger
made 25 not out.
Others perished chasing runs, Dando 5, Ben Barker one handed got
a duck, Ian 7, and John 2 not out.
We fell 29 runs short having received 5 less overs, this is not
a complaint, the 3 short boundaries were edged by crop growing fields
and the ball was not always easy to find!
Many thanks to both teams, a good game which we were never going
to lose. Well Played T.S.E.C.C.
Thanks too to Geoff who has done a great job scoring for us!

TSE
v Nutfield
Sun 26 July
Result: Lost
This
weeks fixture was at the picturesque Nutfield ground, where a timed
match was agreed upon and Temple Sheen batted first. Brian and Steve
opened against some tight bowling, the runs began to flow, but then
a few quick wickets slowed the run-rate down.
John
and Marti played sensibly for a while and set about building a partnership.
Marti clipped a shot off his legs which flew over the boundary fence
for six.
John
was first out which made way for Lego. After a few more quick wickets
he was joined by Ian batting at 10. They shared a valuable partnership
before Ian was out. The last wicket partnership with Nick was also
very profitable, with Lego hitting two big sixes back over the bowler's
head. He remained unbeaten on 61 and Temple Sheen made 191.
Lego
61, Marti 22, Steve C 20, John 20, Ian C 17
The
description of the tea comes from a quote from young Callum, who
said, "Wow, this is the best tea I've ever seen!"
Nutfield's
reply was slow to get off the ground, with Ben Barker opening the
bowling and taking 4 quick wickets. Their were two valuble partnerships,
both including the Aussie who batted with no gloves and top scored
for Nutfield. When he and the Nutfield skipper were out, Temple
Sheen really thought they had a chance. But credit must go to the
young number 10 who knocked off the winning runs with about 2 overs
to go.
Ben
Barker 4-36, Brian 2-39. Thomas and Mark both took a wicket each.
Mark
and Lego both took two catches each.
TSE
v BA
Sun 19 July
Result: Lost
We
travelled to British Airways at Cranford hoping to repeat last
years victory and stop this year's losing streak which
really doesn't do any justice at all to the good cricket
we are playing. We so nearly pulled it off but were just
pipped at the end.
In blustery conditions we batted first on a hard, true
pitch. Steve & Kirit put on 50+ for the first wicket against
some testing bowling. Steve was first out for 25 caught
in the covers. Mark joined Kirit and the score moved towards
100. Kirit was 2nd out for 44. Nick came in at 4 and was
soon out. The middle order and tail didn't really perform
as we chased runs and lost wickets regularly. Arun, Lego,
Marti, Woofers, Ben C & Ian didn't get many. Mark scored a
valuable 41. Brian (12 NO) and extras were the only others
to get double figures as we were all out for a respectable
168 in the 40th over.
We
retired to the lounge for tea which was nowhere to be
seen. It seems that either the BA captain & catering were
on the wrong frequency or they had a sudden emergency
on BA 6312 to JFK and our tea was being served to the
club class passengers somewhere over the Atlantic. Anyway
some tea was quickly brewed and they found some biscuits
& fruit to quell our hunger.
The
restart was delayed by a quick shower & the strengthening
wind made bowing difficult. Brian & Woofers opened the bowling
and BA picked off runs at will. Our only boost coming
from a brilliant run out from Marti hitting the stumps
from cover point with a direct throw.
Mark
replaced Woofers after 8 overs and Ian replaced Brian after
16 with the score in the 90's for 1 and BA numbers 2
& 3 looking well set. Ian soon got amongst the wickets
taking care of no.2, Ben came on to replace Mark & dismissed
no. 3 & then 4 with a good caught & bowled.
Wickets
continued to fall to Ian & Mark with some good catches
by Woofers, Kirit, Steve. BA soon found themselves 143 - 9
with approx 10 overs remaining and we sensed a much overdue
win.
The
last pair batted very sensibly to their credit & scored
the winning runs from the 3rd ball of the final over.
By now it was 8.15 and we were all "Lee Marvin !"
Ian
ended with 4 wickets , Mark 2 and Ben Coggins 2. So on to Nutfield on Sunday
hoping for a change of luck and a win.
TSE
v Bookham
Sun 12 July
Result: Lost
Match
summary:
Tight bowling from Bookham's two opening bowlers restricted Temple
Sheen from scoring runs in the first 10 or so overs. The strip we
used appeared to be very green and under prepared. The strip we
should have used (with Sunday written on it!) had obviously been
used the previous day in the rain and as a result will probably
be out of use for the rest of the season.
Steve
fell for 22 trying to put runs on the board. Mark played an excellent
innings of 89, including some lovely pull-shots, cover drives and
flicks through the vacant slip area for four, also a big six over
long-on. Temple Sheen made 149 in their 40 overs.
A
fantastic tea of baguettes with either pate or a cheese selection,
plenty of sandwiches, refreshing melon slices and various cakes,
including a sublime chocolatey, gooey, mudcake.
Back
to the cricket.....
Tight
bowling and early wickets from Amit and Ian pegged back Bookham's
run chase. But from then on Bookham made steady progress. The key
man being their skipper who was hard to shift, despite a confident
appeal from Steve for a stumping.
Mark
took a wicket with his first ball and Ian took a catch at short
mid-wicket (?) for him to claim his second.
Their
skipper scored the winning runs in the 38th over.
Amit
8-3-16-2
Ian 8-3-10-0
Mark 7-3-24-2
TSE
v Wonersh
Sun 5 July
Result: Lost
Match
summary:
Start was delayed due to several of the team being delayed by an
accident on the M25 and heavy traffic in Guildford. It was agreed
that we would play a timed match and that Temple Sheen would field
first.
We put up a fine display, taking wickets at regular intervals and
were able to restrict Wonersh to 141 all out.
Bowling figures were as follows:
Brian 13-4-55-4,
Amit 4-0-8-1,
Ben Barker 7-0-25-1,
Ian 7.4-0-15-3
Kirit 5-0-25-1
Catches were held by Lego 1, Ben Barker 2, Nick 1 & Brian 1 caught
and bowled.
A
lovely tea was taken, upstairs in the pavilion including coronation
chicken, cheese & pickle, salmon & cucumber, egg mayonnaise sandwiches,
water melon, strawberries, doughnuts & muffins.
Batting
against the two opening bowlers proved to be hard work and we lost
Steve Coggins to the first ball of the innings. There were quick
wickets for not many runs on the board. Wonersh then replaced their
main strike bowler with something a bit more gentle and Temple Sheen
set about building an innings.
Nick
(27) & John (17) shared a productive 50 partnership. Amit played
some nice shots in making his 11 and Ben Barker hit some lovely
4s including two off the opening bowler who had come back for a
second spell. Ben B was the last man out, with Temple Sheen reaching
a total of 119 all out.
The
match was played in good spirits by both sides, in a lovely setting.
After the game we retired to the upstairs bar, with its balcony.
TSE
v Old Wimbledonians
Sun 21 June
Result: Lost
This
fixture was arranged at the eleventh hour after assuarances were
given that the OW XI we were to face, were considerably weaker than
the side who beat us the previous year. We had highlighted the fact
that we were missing several key players and some of those featuring
were raw and/or lacking recent match practice!
Captain
of Vice, Lego admitted the horrible reality of the situation dawned
upon him, at the toss and to his sporting credit, he suggested a
40 over match.
Debutant
Kasim struck early for Sheen, removing one of the openers, with
his nippy little inswingers, however this was about as good as it
was to get. Antipodeans 2,3 & 4 helped themselves to 123, 94 and
57* and as manfully as the Sheen bowling attack tried, it was mostly
in vain. One bright moment was Arun's dismissal of the no.3, getting
one to grip and turn just enough.
A
couple of hard chances went to grass but nobody quit and there was
some tireless work in the deep by Woofers and Ben in particular.
Tea
was taken.
Chasing
295 meant that victory was unlikely but Sheen got off to a good
start and were ahead of the required rate for at least the first
5 overs. Kirit played quite nicely for 30odd and Lego after surviving
a very loud shout for leg before first ball, scored a similar amount
with a mixture of hard hit thumps and desperately scampered singles.
As
the tail wagged Ben and Arun got to spend some handy time in the
middle, until Squirrel decided to send Ben on his way. Oohs and
Aahs were clearly audible from the shocked gallery, we can only
assume that Ben had forgotten to buy a Fathers day card...
To
their credit, the opposition were a nice bunch of lads, played the
match in the right spirit and made us feel welcome by buying us
a jug of beer after the game.
TSE v Bank of England
Sun 17 May
Result: abandoned
Play
has
been delayed by rain, wet pitch but never by Smoke!
On arrival we were greeted with a House on Fire and smoke engulfing
the
whole pitch.
The Bank won the Toss and chose to bat. Despite early wickets the
Bank's
3 and 4 remained unbeaten with Costin on 87 and Hanah on 100. the
Score
on 220.
The elaborate electronic scoreboard even became affected by the
rain and started to go backwards.
After tea Temple Sheen batted and whether it was an after tour reaction
lost Marti and Lego for ducks. Mark was out for 17, and when the
rain came Steve was 19 and Ian not out 3. The game was abandoned!

v New Place XI
Fri 08 May
Result: Won
The Tour Venue this year was Devere New Place Hotel, and our thanks
must go to Lorrie and Lego for selecting an ideal place.
To the Matches: On Friday the match was against a Devere XI,captained
by Lego. We were inserted with Steve Coggins and Neil opening the
Innings. Neil being the first to depart. Enter Marti and together
with Steve a useful partnership developed with Steve Scoring 68
before
being caught and Marti being bowled for 79. We reached 177 for 4.
in 35 overs.
A
Hotel Tea was served!
When Devere batted wickets fell at regular intervals to leave them
all out for 133. Ian took 5 for 11. There were wickets for Ben,
Matt, Mark and John, a very enjoyable opening match!
Saturday was spent with a series of Challenges, including Carpet
Bowls, Quiz, Crazy Golf and Pin Bowling. Sunday
saw Bowls on the Croquet Lawn and Golf Competition. This concluded
the mini challenge, Ian won & the runner up was John.
Sundays Game was against Burridge, Skipperd by Mark and again we
were
inserted.
Fatigued showed in the teams performance. Steve opened this time
with Matthew. Wickets tumbled with regularity Steve first and Matt
for 5. A mini stand between Ian and John the latter
out for 8 after a fine six back over the bowler's head. Enter Lego
to score 50, Ian departed for 23 &Gerry for 12.
Mark had a brief innings of 4. Visitors for the Day Kirrit not out
15 and Dave for 1. There were 31 Extras the Total Posted 152.
Another Hotel Tea.
Burridge batted and there was a steady fall of wickets but progress
was delayed with useful knocks from Scot 34, Lane Not out 38 with
other batsmen contributing. We had to admit defeat in thed 39th
over.
Ian took 2 Wickets, Mark1, Kirrit 1, Nick 1 and Ben 3.
With the usual Indian Curry to round off the Day it was a very enjoyable
Tour!
Roll on next year.

v Whiteley Village CC
Sun 03 May
Result: Won
A new opening partnership of Steve Coggins and Kirrit turned out
to be very sucessful in fact a record opening one!. Kirit retired
hurt on 77 Steve was out on 127. with Marti 2 not out and Mark 24
not out and 22. Extras a Score of 252 for 1 was posted.
When Whiteley Batted they lost a wicket at 28 and another at 30
but Shuter steadied their innings with 69. and at 40 overs the Score
was 217 for 9.
During
their innings there was a sporting gesture by John to give Pasty
his jumper to stave off the cold, the Scorer was less fortunate!
Bowling
Arun took 4 wickets John,Nick Simon and Ian 1 apiece.
A
creditable performance.

v Merrow CC
Sun 19 April
Result: Won
Here we go, yet another season is upon us, another year older and
we are all still raring to go!!
Arrived at the ground sun was shining, sky was blue but still a
little fresh. We had been informed that Merrow had just had their
square relaid during the close season and that it had cost them
£15000, and we were the first team to have the privilege of
playing on it.
Their skipper went out won the toss and decided to bowl on what
was a very green wicket.
Carl opened the bowling from the A25 end and took a wicket with
his 5th ball, a nice lobbed up catch to Marti in the covers. Ian
took the new ball at the Park & Ride end and he had success
with his 4th ball a very smart, diving catch to his left, taking
the ball only inches off the ground for a very good caught and bowled.
The wicket was proving to be pretty difficult to bat on and this
was not helped by the long rough, (sorry wrong game), the outfield
which looked as if it had not been cut since last season. Carl and
Ian were bowling very tightly and Carl was steadily taking wickets,
leaving the opposition struggling at 25 for 5 when Nick replaced
Ian at the Park and Ride end. Nick bowled well and took a wicket
with his 5th ball. Carl not to be out done then took his 5th wicket
and was then replaced by Arun who also took a wicket with his 5th
ball. The last two batsmen started to hit the ball around a bit
before Arun and Kirit took the final two wickets, with the Merrow
innings closing with a total of 85.
Well done boys an excellent Bowling and Fielding display.
Bowling Figures:
Carl Dingwall 10 2 5 20
Ian Coggins 8 5 1 4
Nick Coggins 7 1 1 26
Arun 5 1 2 26
Kirit .3 0 1 0
Steve and Julian opened the batting and found out that things were
going to be difficult and patience was needed. They saw off the
opening bowlers and then the slow left arm orthodox had Julian trapped
LBW for 9 when the score was 16. Marti joined Steve at the crease
and they slowly pushed the score up to 45 before Steve was caught
for 26. Lego entered the fray and never looked in trouble as he
and Marti saw us home reaching 88 to win by 8 wickets.
Well done Gents an excellent start to the season.
