TLT ON THE WIRELESS
Yes - not content with treading the boards at Lemon Street, we had to spread the word throughout Greater Manchester when Radio Manchester invaded Tyldesley on Friday 25th February.
Theatre Chairperson Jenny Whur, Director of 'The Haunting of Hill House' Lisa Taylor, and the Theatre's Technical Co-ordinator Paul Whur, were interviewed by Radio Manchester's Anthony Crank from Paul's photographic studio in The Square, Tyldesley.
The 6 minute piece gave our members a chance to tell Manchester a little of the history of the theatre and also mention the production of 'The Cemetery Club', in which Jenny took a major role.
2007
TLT’S AWARDS TALLY GROWS EVER LONGER!!!
Last season proved to be yet another good year at TLT as the society stumbled out of both the Greater Manchester Drama Federation Annual Dinner and the Bolton News/Bolton Amateur Theatre Societies Amateur Stage Awards night with arms full of awards and ears still proudly ringing with recollections of further nominations and special mentions. Three productions were celebrated in their own particular ways this year; ‘Red Riding Hood’, ‘Dangerous Corner’ and ‘The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾’.
Are you sitting comfortably? ..... then we’ll begin!
In order of the dates in which the productions appeared:
‘Red Riding Hood’, directed by Ian Taylor
GMDF - Best Pantomime - RUNNER UP
BN/BATS - Best Pantomime - WINNER
‘Dangerous Corner’, directed by Jon Dawson
GMDF – Paul Ward, Best Supporting Actor for the role of Charles Stanton - RUNNER UP
‘The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾’, directed by Ian Taylor
GMDF - Best Production - RUNNER UP
GMDF – Best production (Runner Up) Lowry Trophy - WINNER
GMDF - Paul Ward Best Actor for the role of Adrian Mole - WINNER
GMDF – Ian Taylor Best Director - RUNNER UP
GMDF – Adventure in Theatre - RUNNER UP
BN/BATS – Best Comedy - RUNNER UP
BN/BATS – Paul Ward, Best Actor in a Comedy - RUNNER UP
Which means that these three productions garnered three award wins and a were runner up for a further seven but, as Jimmy Cricket used to say, “C’m ‘ere, there’s more!”
TLT also received one further award and a further nomination for the society as a whole over the entire season.
GMDF – Stockport Trophy, Adjudicator’s Discretionary Award - WINNER
GMDF – David Lane Trophy, Front of House Management - RUNNER UP
And finally, we were extremely proud to receive very kind special mentions from the GMDF, firstly for Ken Berry, in recognition of the hard work he puts in to set design and construction as a ‘silent hero’, a sentiment that we all thoroughly endorse, although we feel sure that both the GMDF and Ken would think it only proper to name his two regular partners in crime, the ever dependable Wallace Taylor and Charlie Sidlow.
The final special mention came from both the GMDF adjudicator and chairman when they applauded Tyldesley’s positive response to the constructive criticism offered in official adjudications.
Well, what a year! A final total of four wins, a further eight runner ups and two other special mentions. A fine haul for the year, and a record breaking one too, including such achievements as most nominations for one individual play and most nominations for individual actors and directors. The overall tally in TLT history is now 49 award wins or nominations. We’ll soon be running out of wall space!
The final thought, however, should be one that encapsulates the whole philosophy of Tyldesley Little Theatre and one that has helped maintain its success through the years since its opening way back in 1921. Team work. The variety of awards cover many productions and celebrate the time, skill and effort of all of our membership, whether on stage, back stage, in the technical de[artment, behind the box office or the refreshments counter, with a kettle, with the raffle, with the programmes, up a ladder, in front of a make-up mirror or whatever else we’ve momentarily forgotten. This amazing success is about all of us and for all of us. We are Tyldesley Little Theatre and this what we do – work together for our entertainment and yours – and we’re thrilled to bits that the results have been so kindly celebrated. Here’s to another great season!
