AWARDS for 2009

Following the previous record-breaking years of Award wins wins were always going to be a tough nut to crack – 7 wins and a further 17 nominations was a dream come true! Well, TLT rose to the challenge and the 2009 ‘Festival Season’ added to the wall of certificates and give good cause for great communal celebration once more.
To get things rolling, we were delighted to receive a most worthy addition to our growing collection of accolades. This one is a little bit different and extremely important in these necessarily eco-friendly days.  In April 2009, we were delighted to be presented with a Gold Award in the Keep Britain Tidy Awards (www.keepbritaintidy.org/Expertise/Consultancy/WorkingWithBusinesses/KBTBusinessAwards/Default.aspx).  This was won “in recognition of our commitment to efficient waste management by actively reducing, reusing and recycling their waste, and in taking responsibility for improving their local environment.”  TLT was the second 'business' in Tyldesley to receive this commendable accolade – and we were only beaten into second place by a matter of hours!  So, not only are the shows at Tyldesley Little Theatre entertaining – we are now officially good for you, too!

Nerves settled by such a positive start, we then looked expectantly to the official Greater Manchester Drama Federation Full Length Play Festival nominations for 2008/09.  And things are looking very healthy indeed, with the following five initial nominations:

BEST ACTOR – Tony Thompson for the role of Nobby Clarke in ‘Not with a Bang’ (Feb 2009), directed by Denis Beardsworth with production assistance from the cast and technical department. - RUNNER UP

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR -  Ken Berry for the role of Rev. Elijah Nookey in ‘Pull the Other One’ (Mar 2009), directed by Ian Taylor. - RUNNER UP

CYRIL HINES AWARD – BEST ACTRESS (YOUTH) UNDER 21- Hannah Bloor for the role of Melody in ‘Murder in Neighbourhood Watch’ (Oct 2008), directed by Paul Ward. - WINNER

CERTIFICATE OF MERIT – BEST SUPPORTING FEMALE PERFORMANCE – Ingrid Folkard-Evans for the role of Queen Avarice in ‘Snow White’ (Dec 2008), directed by Ian Taylor. - WINNER

JOHN ALLDRIDGE CUP – ADVENTURE IN THEATRE – Tyldesley Little Theatre for ‘Silly Cow’ (May 2009), directed by Paul Beardsworth. - RUNNER UP

Congratulations to each and every nominee and the theatre members who contributed in any way to helping yet more nominations come our way.   As it stands, however, Tyldesley Little Theatre are the proud retainers of 78 wins or runners-up awards since first being honoured in 1984!

TLT’S BEST EVER RESULTS AT BN/BATS AWARDS

The 2009 Bolton News/Bolton Amateur Theatre Societies Awards Dinner had announced just prior to the event that they were reverting to the tried and tested procedure of presenting awards as voted for by the actual Bolton News critics that had seen the shows, as opposed to the previous year’s Readers Choice Awards which were prone to more easily manipulated results. Tyldesley Little Theatre were delighted at this news, having always done well at the traditional Bolton Awards.  However, nobody from the society realized, as they arrived at the highly enjoyable event at Bolton’s Last Drop Village, that this year’s event would see TLT take to the stage to joyously receive four separate certificates – two wins and two further runners-up awards.  The best ever haul for TLT at the Bolton Awards!  Twice before, the society had managed three but you don’t stay ahead by standing still!!!
The awards were:

BEST DRAMA – RUNNER-UP – ‘Murder in Neighbourhood Watch’ (Oct 2008) Directed by Paul Ward.

BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY – RUNNER-UP – Ian Taylor for the role of Hilary Armitage in ‘Pull the Other One’ (Marc 2009) Directed by Ian Taylor.

BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA – WINNER –Hannah Bloor (again) for the role of Melody in ‘Murder in Neighbourhood Watch’ (Oct 2009) Directed by Paul Ward.

BEST PANTOMIME – WINNER – ‘Snow White’ (Dec 2008) Directed by Ian Taylor

Fantastic news for the whole society – the awards were collected by chairperson Jenny Whur and winning actor/director Ian Taylor but were enjoyed on the evening by a whole host of talented individuals from TLT, all of whom had contributed to this latest success, including master set-builders/decorators Ken Berry, Wallace Taylor and Val Betts, the doyen of Front of House Hilda Taylor, technical supremo Paul Whur, and an impressive mix of actors and directors such as Tony Thompson, Kaye Taylor, and especially those performers who made ‘Snow White’ such a memorable pantomime – Margaret Speakes, Lisa Taylor, Roma Etherington and the world’s tallest (dancing) dwarf, Andrew Sutton!
The latest wins throw up another batch of interesting points of trivia:

The final tally for all years, then, is 82 award wins or nominations since 1984.  Oh, and Glenn Robinson received a further nomination for his production of ‘The Late Edwina Black’ at Bolton Little Theatre.

Well done to the whole society!  Now, let’s go and open another bottle of wine (hic)!

Auditions

‘Ghost Writer ’

In the New Year, we will be holding auditions for our May play, 'Ghost Writer'. Watch this space for details.

The Summer, Courtesy of Viridor

During the summer we have been busy - again. This time, thanks to a fantastic grant from‘VIRIDOR CREDITS’, we have had much needed repairs done to the Theatre roof. Along with this work, after refurbishing the Ladies toilets in 2005, its was the turn of the Gents toilets. We are also replacing some of our old, worn out sound and lighting equipment, replacing panto backcloths, (damaged due to the leaking roof) and redocorating the main foyer and landing. It should keep the dedicated members of the society busy for some time. Have a good look round when you come back in the Autumn. We hope you will find all the hard work has been worthwhile.
Grateful thanks to the team at ‘VIRIDOR CREDITS’ for their assistance and positive reaction to our application.
