church1.jpg (23442 bytes)  The Holy Trinity Church is situated on the edge of the main village, close to the Saffron Walden - Royston road.  Until the early 1900s it had a timber spire on top of the tower. Pictures of this are in the Old Photographs section (click on button above). Apart from the loss of the spire the church's exterior appears to have changed little over the years. The largest of the seven churches in the benefice, it is a very handsome building. (Rector: John Simmons;  Vicar: Mike Warren. Youth Worker: Catharine Currell. Local contact: Margaret Rogers).
The Methodist Chapel is situated in Crawley End. On leaving the centre of the village northwards, it is the first building on the left after Wire Farm. It was built in 1862 and enlarged in 1871. For a brief history see "Gazettes" in the Written Records section (or click on button above)

Joint Churches Office - The Methodist Church and the Church of England have a joint office in what was the vestry. The Benefice Manager, Mrs Eileen Murrell, is there Tuesday - Friday 9.00am to noon. As the building is open at these times anyone wanting to come in and pray quietly or just come and think in peace is very welcome.

The hall is available for hire by local people. There are tables and chairs for about 50 people. There are excellent kitchen and cloakroom facilities including a toilet for the disabled.

Hall bookings - Betty Maskell or Mrs Maureen Starr on 838602.                                Back to:
