The Channel Coast Lands

The Channel coastlands are a mix of natural features - cliffs, beaches and river mouths, along with human settlements as diverse as ports, resorts and sleepy hollows! We will study both aspects of the coast and how all these link together.
 

Ireland upon the Dissecting Table 1880-1921

Described as 'the political issue of the age' this course will provide an introduction to the protracted battle for Irish Home Rule. It will primarily focus upon the politics, personalities and movements involved in this bitter struggle.

Examining the role of food in literature this course looks at how writers success-fully recreate the pleasures of eating. The writers to be studied will include Lewis Carroll, Doris Lessing, Joanne Harris (Chocolat), John Lanchester and Ali Smith.

For centuries people have confided their thoughts on events, public and private, to diaries. A wonderful collection of local diaries from 17th Century onwards survives - join us to glimpse historic events through the words of people who actually experienced them.
 

The Innovations of French Impressionism
