Noson Lawen
The first live concert following the refurbishment of the stage, sound and lighting systems at Cross Hands Public Hall was held on Saturday, March 29. There was a full house for the Noson Lawen compered by Ifan 'JCB' Davies MBE with guest artistes Ifan Gruffydd Tregaron, Llanarthne soprano Ann Davies, accordionist Rhodri Davies from Nantgaredig as well as Côr Meibion Mynydd Mawr.
The Cross Hands Ladies Choir, conducted by Ann Davies with accompanist, Eirwen Evans, also took part and announced on the evening that the choir's name was being changed to Curiad y Cwm. Ann Davies also assisted Côr Meibion Mynydd Mawr by taking the baton at short notice after the choir's Musical Director, Gareth Simms, had been taken ill a few days before. The accompanist for Côr Meibion Mynydd Mawr was Eleri Jones.
The audience was often in stitches when listening to comedian Ifan Gruffydd and the two comedy sketches that saw popular BBC Radio Cymru broadcasters Rebecca Jones and Mark Griffiths plus radio producer Tomos Morse and his sister Elin as well as Sharon James from Cae'r Ffair Nursery, Gorslas performing superbly.
"It was an excellent night with the hall full to capacity. I am also delighted that we raised £1,000 for the Ray Gravell Memorial Fund," said Noson Lawen organiser, Ellis Davies. "I am very grateful to everyone who supported the event, including the artistes and programme advertisers. It has proved that there is a demand for this type of live event and another Noson Lawen could well be arranged at the Hall in the future."
