This is one of a group of ten life studies made by William Roberts on the edge of a student's drawings in the life class at the Central School of Art, London. Roberts started teaching there in the mid-1920s, and at the time of these drawings he was running the class jointly with his friend Bernard Meninsky. (The collection from which this comes also includes some life drawings by Meninsky and other supervising tutors.) These life drawings have not previously been catalogued or exhibited (July 2011)
